Summary
A compact wired indoor/outdoor security camera built around 2.5K QHD video, color night vision and a loud siren, aimed at buyers who want strong specs at a budget price. Check two things before buying: the Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only, and Consumer Reports rates Wyze’s data privacy as sub-standard.
Strengths
- 2.5K QHD video from a Starlight sensor looks crisp and lively day or night in PCWorld’s testing.
- Four IR LEDs plus two white spotlights cover dark rooms and dim yards.
- Bluetooth setup is a definite improvement over the v3’s QR-code pairing.
- The 99 dB siren is a meaningful jump over the v3 Pro’s 89 dB.
- At 0.49 lb it goes almost anywhere on a stand, wall, ceiling or magnetic plate.
- The onboard 1.4 GHz processor handles local AI detection without cloud processing for basic alerts.
Weaknesses
- Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only, which can struggle in congested wireless environments.
- Power runs through a dated microUSB connector, with no USB-C and no battery option.
- Smart person, vehicle and pet detection needs a Cam Plus subscription; without it you get basic motion.
- Consumer Reports rates Wyze’s data privacy as sub-standard, citing excessive data collection and limited user control.
- The 72-lumen spotlight is dimmer than the v3 Pro’s 80 lumens.
- Wyze’s page says microSD up to 256 GB while PCWorld, the Brainerd Dispatch and Consumer Reports all report 512 GB.

Image, alerts and night vision
The v4 shares its internals with the Wyze Cam v3 Pro, with a few small changes: a white bezel around the lens, a hardwired power pigtail instead of a USB port, and the dimmer spotlight. PCWorld found the images crisp and lively whether recorded at day or night, under standard IR or with the spotlights on, and called the 1.4 GHz dual-core processor a real speed-up for local AI detection.
Consumer Reports measured an average alert response of 4.4 seconds, which it calls very quick. The camera records 2.5K QHD at 20 fps by day and 15 fps at night, with an 8x digital zoom and wide dynamic range for tricky light. Color night vision comes from the Starlight sensor, and the spotlight has two brightness levels that can trigger on any motion or only on smart detection.
Privacy, power and subscriptions
The most serious caution is privacy. Consumer Reports rates Wyze’s data privacy as sub-standard, noting the company does not collect only necessary data, gives limited user control and limits data sharing poorly next to rivals. Weigh that against the price before you put one indoors.
Connectivity is a mixed bag. Wi-Fi 6 is welcome, but it runs on the 2.4 GHz band only and will not join a 5 GHz network. Bluetooth 5.2 handles setup. Power is wired-only through a 6-foot microUSB cable and a 5V/1A adapter; there is no battery, so placement needs an outlet and the camera goes dark in an outage. The microUSB connector is an aging choice that may raise durability concerns over time.
Smart detection is subscription-gated. Person, vehicle and pet detection need Cam Plus; without it, only basic motion detection is available. Local recording uses a microSD card that is not included, and cloud storage also needs the plan.
Which model this is
This page covers the Wyze Cam v4, model WYEC4, sold in White and Grey. It is based on the same hardware as the v3 Pro and should not be confused with the Wyze Cam v3, v3 Pro, Cam Pan v4 or Cam OG. The US variant’s listing is ASIN B0CWPB9CZV.
Is it worth it?
At $35 or less it is a strong value, with 2.5K resolution, color night vision, IP65, Wi-Fi 6, local AI detection, a 99 dB siren and flexible mounting all at a budget price. From $36 to $45 it is fair-to-good, but the privacy and connectivity limits matter more as the price climbs. Above $45 it is weak value unless compact size or Wyze ecosystem integration decides the purchase, because dual-band Wi-Fi, USB-C and better privacy records become available.
Wyze launched the camera at $29.99 plus shipping in March 2024 and set a launch MSRP of $35.98 (PCWorld; Brainerd Dispatch). The Wyze store lists it at $44.98 (wyze.com, October 2026). The price has risen since launch, so the value case rests on the discount you find.
