Summary
A budget pair of true wireless earbuds with adaptive noise cancelling, LDAC hi-res audio, a 50-hour total battery and a wireless charging case. Check the codec trade-off before you buy: LDAC roughly halves battery life, and the noise cancelling is good for the price rather than class-leading.
Strengths
- LDAC hi-res audio is rare at this price and Android users get the most from it.
- 50 hours of total playtime with the case, and a 10-minute charge adds about 4 hours.
- Adaptive ANC and a transparency mode cover commuting and office noise.
- The case charges wirelessly or over USB-C, and five ear-tip sizes help the fit.
- The Soundcore app offers a customizable EQ and control remapping.
- The buds are 25% smaller than the previous generation and comfortable for long stretches.
Weaknesses
- ANC is good for the price but does not match the Sony WF-1000XM4 or Bose QuietComfort Earbuds.
- LDAC cuts battery life roughly in half, and it disables multipoint while it is active.
- There is no wear detection, so removing a bud does not pause playback.
- The digital assistant function is unreliable in testing.
- Sub-bass is light and the app’s EQ has no band covering it.
- ANC mode adds a thin band of hiss.

Noise cancelling and sound
PCMag calls the audio balanced and detailed and the ANC quality for the price, while Tom’s Guide calls the same ANC subpar next to premium models. Both agree it does not match the Sony WF-1000XM4 or the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds. The 98% reduction figure is a manufacturer claim measured under ideal conditions, and no instrumented test of real-world reduction was found. ANC slightly shifts the sound signature toward the lows, and a thin band of hiss appears in ANC mode. Sub-bass is light, and the EQ has no band that reaches it. LDAC support is the standout for Android users, since the codec is unusual at this price.
Battery life and LDAC
Soundcore rates the buds at 10 hours and the case total at 50 in Normal mode, dropping to 8 and 40 with ANC on. Turning on LDAC cuts that to 6 and 30 with ANC off, or 5 and 25 with ANC on. Calls are rated at 6 hours in Normal mode and 5 with ANC on. A 10-minute charge returns about 4 hours of playtime. The case refills in about 3.5 hours on a wireless pad or 3 hours over USB-C, and the buds take about 2 hours. LDAC and multipoint cannot run at the same time; enabling LDAC disables multipoint.
Fit, controls and upkeep
The buds are 25% smaller than the previous generation and Tom’s Guide found them comfortable for stretches of up to four hours. Five pairs of silicone tips (XS, S, M, L, XL) are in the box. There is no wear detection, so playback does not pause when you pull a bud out, and Tom’s Guide found the digital assistant unreliable. The IPX4 rating covers light splashes and sweat on the buds only; the case is not water-resistant and neither should be submerged. Soundcore lists a 30-day money-back guarantee, a hassle-free warranty and lifetime support, without a stated warranty length. No user-serviceable parts or repair information turned up, and nobody has published a failure rate, so treat long-term reliability as unknown.
Is it worth it?
At $60 or less the Space A40 is a strong value: LDAC, adaptive ANC, a 50-hour total battery, wireless charging and a feature-rich app, with the ANC limits and missing wear detection acceptable at that price. From $61 to $80 it is still good value, especially for Android users. From $81 to $100 it is fair, and above $100 it is weak against earbuds with stronger noise cancelling. Soundcore lists it at $99.99, PCMag listed it at $79.99, and CNET flagged a $49 deal in July 2026 against a usual $80. In October 2026 Walmart listed it at $54.99 and Best Buy at $99.99. Wirecutter does not review the Space A40 and names the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro as its top top choice.
