Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 50 W portable Bluetooth speaker with five drivers, one firing upward, 3.5 mm AUX-in and LDAC support, sold as a one-box stereo system with app EQ. Read the fine print before buying: the 12-hour battery figure is measured at a quarter volume with Bass Mode off, the battery is not replaceable, and there is no dust rating.

Strengths

  • Five drivers with an upward-firing full-range unit give it real output for its size.
  • DXOMARK scored it 132 and ranked it first in its sub-$200 tier, strongest on the spatial attribute.
  • Stereo from a single unit, plus TWS pairing for two.
  • LDAC support on Android and a 3.5 mm AUX input that many rivals dropped.
  • The 9-band app EQ meaningfully reshapes the sound.
  • An 18-month warranty and a 30-day direct-purchase return.

Weaknesses

  • Bass does not go deep, and Consumer Reports calls the overall sound middling.
  • RTINGS describes it as slightly bright, with compression at maximum volume.
  • The 12-hour playtime is at quarter volume with Bass Mode off; testers measured about 8 hours and as low as 5.
  • No wall charger or AUX cable in the box.
  • The battery is not replaceable, and soundcore sells no spare parts.
  • No multipoint Bluetooth and no dust rating.

The measured sound

Five drivers including an upward-firing full-range unit, 50 W total, and stereo from a single cabinet read well on paper, and the independent results are mixed but usable. DXOMARK scored it 132, ranked it 20th globally and first in its sub-$200 tier, calling it very immersive for its size and powerful at the low end, while listing a lack of upper bass and low midrange as a weakness. Consumer Reports’ lab calls the sound middling: bass with impact that does not go deep and is a bit boomy, a hazy midrange, and a soundfield that is only two-dimensional. RTINGS calls it okay for music, slightly bright and occasionally sharp on cymbals and S/T sounds, with no extended low bass. PCMag rated it Excellent for rich bass, clear highs and effective EQ, but found the buttons need hard presses and the spatial effect is not truly immersive. The bass shortfall is the most consistent complaint across sources.

Battery, box and durability

The 12-hour figure is a quarter-volume, Bass-Mode-off measurement, and real use is shorter: PCWorld measured about 8 hours at a reasonable volume, and Digital Trends saw as low as 5 hours when playing loudly with extras on. LDAC also raises power draw and cuts playtime. Charging takes about 6 hours, and no wall charger ships in the box. Ingress protection is IPX7 with no dust rating, below the IP67 rivals cheaper speakers offer. The battery cannot be replaced, soundcore publishes no parts catalog, there is no multipoint Bluetooth, Bluetooth scanning cannot be disabled, and the metal and aluminium surfaces scratch and dent under rough handling.

What spatial audio is

The upward-firing “sky channel” is a processing mode, not a discrete surround format, and soundcore says it needs no special source. PCMag found it behaves as an additional form of EQ rather than true surround, and one owner running a TWS pair found the effect less noticeable against other pairs. Default tuning draws criticism: DXOMARK calls the out-of-box audio underwhelming, and one owner says the sound is poor unless spatial audio is on. Owners who spend time in the 9-band EQ generally report satisfaction. Owners running two units in TWS describe it as close to a small home-theater system.

Is it worth it?

soundcore US lists it at $199.99 with a $40-off code (2026-10-04), but the value moves a lot with price. Third-party US prices have sat near $149 at Crutchfield and from $159.99 at Consumer Reports, and owners consistently name about $129 as the point where it becomes an easy buy. Around $110 in soundcore-certified refurbished or pre-owned form it is strong value, with the shorter remaining warranty as the main trade. At the $199.99 list the advantages over a cheaper, better-sealed rival are AUX-in, stereo from one unit, LDAC and the upward driver, not battery life or ruggedness. Which model this is

This page covers the soundcore Motion X600, model A3130, in Polar Gray, Aurora Green and Lunar Blue; the US listing is ASIN B0BXW4KKXK. Do not confuse it with the smaller Motion X500, the Motion+, the Motion 300, or the Motion Boom and Boom 2 models, which have different output, battery and ingress ratings. The X600 pairs only with a second X600 over TWS, not with other soundcore speakers.
