Summary

A compact brushless D-handle drill whose head flips 180° between two preloaded 1/4-inch hex bits, running on SKIL 12V or 20V PWR CORE batteries with USB-C charging. Check whether you genuinely alternate drilling and driving — the flip is a two-handed job, and the collets take hex-shank bits only.

Strengths

  • Two bits stay loaded, so drill-then-drive work means a head flip instead of a bit swap.
  • It runs on either SKIL 12V or 20V PWR CORE batteries, and the battery itself charges over USB-C.
  • On 20V it makes 350 in-lbs and 1,700 RPM — enough for bits up to 1/2-inch and fasteners under 2-1/2 inches.
  • The electronic clutch raises RPM as you step up, which suits small fasteners and delicate materials.
  • At 2.03 lbs it is light enough for ladder work and overhead jobs.
  • The tool carries a 5-year warranty if registered within 30 days; batteries and chargers are covered 2 years.

Weaknesses

  • The collets accept 1/4-inch hex-shank bits only — no chuck, no round-shank bits, no hole saws.
  • Flipping the head is a two-handed, button-press operation, so it may be no faster than swapping a bit.
  • The stowed bit gets about 3 inches of clearance under the magnetic holder.
  • Pro Tool Reviews saw it struggle with 1-inch spade and self-feed bits even in low gear.
  • The tool leans forward, which the reviewer flags for anyone with wrist or grip-strength issues.
  • No mechanical clutch, and no public runtime, under-load torque or durability data exists.

The flip head and who it suits

Press the head flip release button and rotate the head 180° until it clicks, and the second collet is live. Both collets take 1/4-inch hex bits, so a drill bit and a driver bit ride together. Community reaction split along predictable lines: trades-leaning commenters on ToolGuyd’s 71-comment launch thread called the flip a gimmick and an extra failure point, while cabinet installers, ladder workers and people running predrill-then-drive sequences described genuine uses. Even fans caution the tool is “not meant for the big jobs.”

Power and performance

The only independent hands-on test is Pro Tool Reviews’ October 2024 review of the same DL6300D-00 tool in its 12V kit form. It drilled well in high gear with bits up to 1/2-inch and fasteners under 2-1/2 inches, but with 1-inch spade and self-feed bits the reviewer had to drop to low gear to get through a pine 2x4 stud, and the tool “noticeably struggled”. PTR’s verdict: a light-duty drill, and regular large-bit work points to SKIL’s DL6293B instead. On 12V, internal power limiting drops the specs to 300 in-lbs and 1,550 RPM. No instrumented torque, runtime, heat or durability data exists publicly for this tool.

Bits, batteries, warranty and running costs

The collets take hex-shank bits only, so 1/4-inch hex bits are the one consumable lock-in, and no chuck accessories fit. The included 2.0Ah battery supports two-way USB-C — SKIL’s copy rates the port 100W while several retailers say 60W, and no third-party measurement exists. SKIL and the manual say the 20W charger refills the battery in 85 minutes; some retailer copy says 55. Replacement PWR CORE batteries and USB-C chargers are the other ownership costs. The manual backs the tool with a 5-year limited warranty if registered within 30 days of purchase, 2 years on batteries and chargers, and just 90 days for industrial, professional or commercial use. SKIL recommends service at its factory or authorized service centers and keeps a manuals-and-parts page, though the DL6300D parts list was not retrievable during this research.

Is it worth it?

At $75–$100 — eBay multi-buy, launch and street pricing — it is a fair buy for a homeowner who genuinely works the predrill-and-drive alternation or wants one battery platform across 12V and 20V tools. SKIL direct lists the kit at $109.99; launch pricing in Nov 2024 was $99.99 per ToolGuyd’s preview, and PTR listed the 20V kit at $99 and the 12V kit at $99.98 at Lowe’s in Oct 2024. At Global Industrial’s $119.95 or Shell Lumber’s $124.45 the case thins: the same money buys compact drills with chucks, mechanical clutches and deeper test histories. Above $125 the flip head has to be a daily convenience to justify it.

Which model this is

This page covers the SKIL 12V/20V brushless flip drill kit DL6300D-12, tool model DL6300D-00 — the bare tool is DL6300D-00 and the kit adds the 20V 2.0Ah USB-C battery and 20W USB-C charger. The sibling DL6300D-11 is the same tool kitted with a 12V battery. Do not merge it with other PWR CORE 20 tools such as the DL6293B compact drill driver or the ID6739B impact driver. ToolGuyd found the original marketplace listing for this drill pooled reviews from an older, unrelated SKIL 20V drill, so early review text cannot be attributed cleanly to this tool.

The listing identifier is ASIN B0DHWPM278.
