Summary

A 40 mm Wear OS smartwatch for Samsung phone owners who want the deepest health tracking the company offers, including FDA-cleared sleep apnea detection and body-composition analysis. Check the battery before you buy: it runs roughly a day per charge, so plan on charging daily.

Strengths

  • Heart-rate readings matched the Apple Watch Ultra 2 within 1–2 bpm in testing.
  • Sleep tracking is detailed: stages, HRV, respiratory rate, skin temperature and snoring.
  • FDA-cleared sleep apnea detection, ECG and body-composition readings in one watch.
  • The 3 nm Exynos W1000 and 32 GB of storage are a step up from the Watch 6.
  • Light and comfortable at about an ounce, with a bright 1.3-inch AMOLED display.
  • Dual-frequency GPS and a wide range of workout tracking.

Weaknesses

  • Battery life is the main weakness: 22–28 hours in testing, so daily charging is required.
  • Sleep time readings came in low against the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Nest Hub.
  • Running distance reads slightly high because of GPS wobble.
  • Snoring detection and the AI insights need a Samsung phone.
  • Full functionality runs through three apps: Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health and Samsung Health Monitor.
  • The knock gesture occasionally fires by accident.

Battery life and charging

Samsung markets optimized battery life, but testing put the watch at 22 hours with the always-on display and GPS running, and 28 hours without GPS. A third run with the always-on display off and medium GPS use reached 27 hours. That is a charge-every-night watch. A full charge takes about 88 minutes, so a top-up while you get ready is usually enough.

Health tracking

Samsung packs in more sensors than most rivals: ECG, body-composition (BIA), an AGEs index and an FDA-cleared sleep apnea feature that needs seven nights of wear across a 30-night window. Testing found heart rate within 1–2 bpm of the Apple Watch Ultra 2, and body-composition readings matched a smart scale on BMI but ran high on body fat. Sleep stages, HRV, respiratory rate, skin temperature and snoring are all logged, though total sleep time came in lower than the Apple Watch and Nest Hub. Two things are worth checking before you buy: snoring detection and the AI insights need a Samsung phone, and full functionality runs through three apps — Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health and Samsung Health Monitor.

Which model this is

This page covers the Galaxy Watch 7 in 40 mm, Bluetooth, cream, model SM-L300NZEAXAA. The US Amazon variant is ASIN B0D1YNVD88. Don’t confuse it with the LTE model (SM-L315), the Galaxy Watch 8, the Watch Ultra or the older Watch 6, which share some features but differ in size, battery and price.

Price and value

Samsung.com listed the 40 mm Bluetooth model at $209.99 in October 2026, down from the $299.99 launch price, and the main product page advertised it from $159.99 before trade-in. PCMag reviewed it at $249.99 in July 2024. At $159–$200 it is strong value for Samsung phone users; from $201 to $250 it is fair, and above $250 the one-day battery is hard to justify. Wirecutter does not recommend this watch, preferring the Google Pixel Watch 4 for Android for its battery life and repairability.
