Summary
A slim 6.7-inch mid-range phone with a bright 120Hz AMOLED screen, a 5,000mAh battery, IP68 water resistance and six years of OS upgrades. Check the price before you buy: the Exynos 1680 is the slowest chip in its class, and the value is weak at its $609.99 launch price for the 256GB model.
Strengths
- A bright 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen that holds up outdoors.
- Battery life is strong in every independent test, from 13h 59m to 18h 20m.
- IP68 and Gorilla Glass Victus+ give it a durable, premium feel.
- Six years of OS upgrades and six years of security patches match flagship support.
- It is Samsung’s thinnest A-series phone at 6.9mm and 179g.
- Wi-Fi 6E is rare at this price.
Weaknesses
- The Exynos 1680 is the slowest CPU in its class, and the GPU trails rivals too.
- It runs warm and visibly throttles under sustained gaming.
- The 5MP macro camera is soft and blurry.
- There is no wireless charging and no microSD card slot.
- The glossy back picks up fingerprints badly.
- The $50 increase over the A56 weakens the value at full price.

Design and display
The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus panel runs at 120Hz and peaks at 1,900 nits, so it stays readable outdoors. PCMag called the colors punchy, and Android Authority found it easy to read indoors and outdoors but essentially unreadable in direct sunlight once the phone is warm. The body is 6.9mm thin and 179g, Samsung’s slimmest A-series phone, with Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both sides and an aluminum frame. The glossy glass back shows fingerprints, so budget for a case.
Performance and thermals
The Exynos 1680 is a modest step up from the A56’s Exynos 1560, and reviewers put it at the back of its class. PCMag measured 1,389 single-core and 4,515 multi-core in Geekbench 6, and 1,676 (10fps) in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme. Android Authority saw 30 minutes of PUBG Mobile leave the phone noticeably warm and throttled, and reported slow app opening for 20 minutes after a data transfer. A 13% larger vapor chamber helps it sustain performance, but this is not a gaming phone.
Battery and charging
Battery life is the A57’s strong point. PCMag measured 18h 20m of 1080p streaming at full brightness, GSMArena’s Active Use Rating was 13h 59m, Tom’s Guide estimated about 20h, and Consumer Reports logged 34 hours. Charging is 45W over USB PD+PPS, but no charger is in the box. PCMag saw 34% in 15 minutes, 67% in 30 minutes and 100% in 1h 11m; GSMArena filled it in 69 minutes. There is no wireless charging.
Camera and software
The 50MP main camera bins to 12MP by default and has OIS; the 12MP ultrawide covers 123°, and the 5MP macro is the weak link. PCMag found the main and ultrawide solid and the macro weak, and TechRadar said pictures aren’t up to snuff. Reviewers note image quality improved over the A56 even though the hardware is largely unchanged, and blur-free zoom transitions between lenses are a first for the A-series. The phone ships with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, and Samsung promises up to 6 OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates. Mashable’s review is the harshest, calling the software tools compromised; most others treat the update policy as the phone’s best long-term asset.
Upkeep and running costs
The phone has a one-year Samsung warranty, and Samsung Care+ extends coverage. Samsung’s Self Repair Program covers some devices. Consumer Reports rated durability excellent and the phone passed its water intrusion test at the rated depth and time. The main recurring costs are a case, because the back glass attracts fingerprints, and a screen protector. Charging at 45W needs a USB PD+PPS charger, which is not included. No long-term reliability data exists yet; the phone only went on sale in April 2026.
Is it worth it?
At $450 or less the A57 5G is a strong value: IP68, a 120Hz AMOLED screen, six years of updates and solid battery life make the Exynos 1680’s limits acceptable. Between $451 and $550 it is fair; above that the value weakens. TechRadar listed the 128GB model at $389.99 at Walmart, and CNET reported a record-low $425 on July 27, 2026. At its $609.99 launch price for 256GB it sits close to the Galaxy S25 FE, which adds a telephoto camera. The $50 increase over the A56 is the main reason reviewers suggest waiting for a discount.
