Summary
Ring’s flagship hardwired doorbell pairs a square 4K sensor with radar motion detection and color low-light video, and it runs from existing doorbell wiring. Check two things before buying: there is no local storage, and full recording features need a Ring Protect subscription.
Strengths
- A square 2880 × 2880 sensor covers 140 degrees horizontally and vertically.
- Low-Light Sight keeps color in near-darkness, then Adaptive Night Vision switches to black and white.
- Radar-based 3D Motion Detection adds a second method to camera motion zones.
- 10x Enhanced Zoom is enough to read small details such as a name tag or logo.
- The body fits narrow door trim without the overhang of earlier Pro models.
- The box includes a DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) for homes that need one.
Weaknesses
- There is no local storage option; video is cloud only.
- 24/7 Recording, Advanced Pre-Roll, Quick Replies and Privacy Zones need a Ring Protect subscription.
- It does not support Apple HomeKit or Google Assistant.
- Independent measured testing is limited to PCMag.
- Familiar Faces is unavailable in Illinois, Texas, Portland (Oregon) and Quebec.
- Ring’s US page leaves in-home chime support and US Wi-Fi 6 unconfirmed.

Video and night vision
Ring specifies 4K at 2880 × 2880 in a square 1:1 frame with 140 degrees of horizontal and vertical field of view. The square frame is the reason for the Head-to-Toe claim: the extra vertical pixels show a package on the step or a visitor’s shoes, which retailer reviews single out as the improvement over the earlier 2K Pro. Zoom reaches 10x Enhanced Zoom, enough to pick out small details. At night, Low-Light Sight keeps full color and Adaptive Night Vision falls back to high-contrast black and white when light is too low. PCMag, which tested the model, called the 4K detail sharp and the low-light color better than average.
Installation and power
The camera runs from an existing doorbell transformer at 16 or 24 VAC, 10 to 40 VA, with Ring recommending 30 to 40 VA for best results, or from 24 VDC at 12 W. Ring rules out halogen and garden-lighting transformers. A DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) ships in the box with a mounting plate, corner kit, push pin and hardware. The body measures 1.95 × 1.02 × 5.45 in excluding the button, lens and mounting plate, and retailer reviewers say the slimmer profile fits narrow trim without overhang. Streaming 4K assumes bandwidth: Ring asks for 15 Mbps, against 4 Mbps for its 1080p devices.
Subscription and ecosystem
There is no local storage. Everything is cloud, and features including 24/7 Recording, Advanced Pre-Roll, Quick Replies and Privacy Zones need a Ring Protect subscription; storage defaults to 30 days and can extend to 180. The ecosystem is narrow: PCMag lists Amazon Alexa and IFTTT as the integrations and notes the absence of Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. Ring’s UK spec sheet lists Wi-Fi 6 dual-band, but the US pages read so far say only Wi-Fi. Familiar Faces is unavailable in Illinois, Texas, Portland (Oregon) and Quebec. Ring’s US product page also shows in-home chime support as unavailable in one place, so confirm that before you buy if you rely on a mechanical chime.
Is it worth it?
Buy it when it is discounted and you already live in the Ring and Alexa ecosystem with doorbell wiring. The case rests on image quality rather than features, since the subscription-dependent features are not differentiating. If you want local recording, HomeKit or a one-time cost with no subscription, look elsewhere. If you have an older 10 VA transformer, check its rating before installing. Independent measured testing beyond PCMag is thin, which is the main caveat on any strong performance claim.
