Summary
A 2 L USB-powered cat fountain with a wireless in-water pump, Bluetooth app control and a visible water-level window, aimed at one or two cats. Check two things before buying: the power adapter is not included, and the published ≤25 dB noise figure is an unmeasured manufacturer claim.
Strengths
- No cable sits in the water; the pump is wireless and the powered base is never immersed.
- The tank and tray lift off the base, which owners repeatedly call easy to clean.
- A visible water-level window shows the level without lifting the lid.
- The pump is a separately sold spare (P4113), so a dead pump is not a dead fountain.
- It is the cheapest PETKIT fountain that still has app control, and owners say cats take to it quickly.
- Dry-run protection shuts the pump off when the water is low.
Weaknesses
- There is no independent instrumented test of this model; the one hands-on review contradicts the manual on size and weight.
- The power adapter is not in the box, and the fountain must stay plugged into USB to pump.
- The app is Bluetooth-only, with no Wi-Fi.
- The wet path is plastic and not dishwasher safe, and filters need replacing every 2–4 weeks.
- There is no sterilization function; the UVC pump costs extra.
- Published noise and capacity figures conflict across PETKIT’s own pages.

Design and setup
The Solo 2 is a 2 L plastic fountain, 7.28 in square and 6.45 in tall, weighing 1.76 lb, for cats, small-breed dogs and indoor use only. It runs on USB at 5 V, 1 A and 2 W and must stay plugged in to pump; there is no battery option. The adapter is not included, so buyers need a spare USB power source. The drinking assembly lifts off a sealed base that should never be immersed or soaked, and the unit needs a level surface or it can leak. “Wireless” describes the pump connection, not cordless operation.
Noise and app
Connection is Bluetooth only, with no Wi-Fi radio. The manual documents two flow behaviours: green for intermittent flow on a default three-minutes-on, three-minutes-off cycle you can change in the app, and blue for continuous flow. Marketing refers to three working modes, and the third appears to be a night mode that switches off the LEDs; the manual does not mention it. After a filter change you must complete a reset in the app or the filter light keeps flashing. Treat hydration tracking as unconfirmed: PETKIT’s US FAQ mentions drinking frequency, while its UK table marks that feature unavailable on the Solo 2. The ≤25 dB figure is a comparison-table claim with no stated method, and PETKIT’s own regional pages give both 20 dB and 35 dB. Owners describe the fountain as quiet in practice.
Upkeep and reliability
Filtration is three layers: a high-density filter, coconut-shell activated carbon and ion-exchange resin. Replacement is Filter Unit 3.0 (P4161), sold as five pieces for $19.99 (PETKIT, 2026), and PETKIT asks for a change every 2–4 weeks. That works out to roughly $4–$8 a month, or about $52 a year at the four-week cadence (PETKIT, 2026). The wet path is plastic and cannot go in a dishwasher, which matters because biofilm removal is the main upkeep task. A replacement wireless pump is $15.99 on sale and $19.99 regular (PETKIT, 2026). Plan to clean the impeller weekly; the review that ran the fountain for six months cleaned filters every week.
No independent instrumented test of the Solo 2 exists; the only hands-on review, from a breeder with six months of use, gives size and weight that contradict the manual and reports a noise figure with no method. Complaint evidence is thin and mostly relayed: reports of the fountain overflowing onto the floor and of a pump that stopped pushing water, plus a forum thread about Filter Unit 3.0 overflow on an earlier PETKIT model. Sibling-model threads describe a pump stopping while the lights kept working, traced to impeller fouling. None of that yields a failure rate. The failure mode to watch is an impeller fouled by hair and biofilm.
Is it worth it?
PETKIT’s US store lists the Solo 2 at $49.99 to $59.99 (PETKIT, 2026), and Walmart and Chewy list it at $44.99 (2026). At $49.99 or less it is reasonable for a single-cat household that wants app control and a water-level window. From $50 to $60 it is still defensible, but there is no independent test data and the app is Bluetooth-only. Above $60 the case weakens: the 2 L tank is small, the plastic wet path is not dishwasher safe, there is no sterilization, the warranty is 1 year and the noise claim is contested. Judge it on the filter cadence: about $4 to $8 a month means a buyer who will not clean the impeller weekly is buying a biofilm problem. PETKIT’s own EverSweet Solo SE is $29.99 if you do not need app-adjustable flow, and the EverSweet Max Cordless is $77.99 for 3 L, battery operation and a stainless-steel tray.
