Summary
A 15.6-inch 1080p IPS portable monitor for travel and single-cable USB-C setups, with tripod, VESA and kickstand mounting plus a sleeve in the box. Check the color gamut before you buy: 49.51% sRGB washes out, so this is a productivity screen, not a creative one.
Strengths
- At 0.78 kg it travels well, and the included sleeve protects it in a bag.
- Either USB-C port carries video and 15W of power, so one cable runs display and power from the laptop.
- Tripod socket, VESA mount and a 0–90° kickstand give it mounting options rare under $100.
- L-shaped right-angle HDMI and USB-C cables plus a protective sleeve come in the box.
- Measured brightness tops the rating: 328 nits against 250 rated.
Weaknesses
- 49.51% sRGB coverage washes out color; deep reds look orange.
- The OSD is a single toggle button with few menu options, and reviewers call it clunky.
- The 1W speakers are very quiet.
- Contrast doesn’t stand out, and 60 Hz limits motion clarity.
- No adaptive sync on MSI’s spec sheet, despite one retailer’s listing claiming it.

Full research notes and sources
One cable, two USB-C ports
Both USB-C ports accept DisplayPort 1.2a video and deliver 15W of power delivery, so a single cable from either port can run display and power to a laptop. The HDMI 2.0b port carries 1080p at 60 Hz. Power itself comes from an external USB-C adapter rated 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz.
Mounting and accessories
Reviewers keep pointing at the mounting: a 1/4-inch tripod socket and 75 × 75 mm VESA threads on a 0.78 kg chassis, with a built-in kickstand that tilts 0 to 90 degrees. BabelTechReviews says the budget went into “physical features rather than pure visual fidelity” and calls the monitor “one of the smartest budget buys currently on the market” for productivity. The box adds L-shaped right-angle cables that reduce cable clutter, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and a protective sleeve.
Colors, speakers and the OSD
The budget shows here. MSI specifies 49.51% sRGB coverage (CIE 1976), below the full sRGB space, and BabelTechReviews describes the result as washed-out color where deep reds tend to look orange. PCMag lists limited color coverage and muted red tones among its cons. The OSD runs through a single toggle button for brightness and audio, with limited menu options; PCWorld and BabelTechReviews both call it clunky or stiff. The two 1W speakers are very quiet, and PCWorld found contrast that doesn’t stand out. None of that matters for spreadsheets, documents and chat windows; all of it matters for photo editing.
Is it worth it?
It launched at an $89.99 MSRP (PCWorld, September 2025) and has been listed as low as $69.99 (Best Buy, February 2026). At that street price it is an easy pick for a second screen. PCMag Australia’s “Best Deal” was $139 AUD in September 2026. Above $100 the washed-out colors get harder to excuse, and creative work is out at any price. For color-critical work, BabelTechReviews points at ASUS ZenScreen instead.
Which model this is
This page covers the MSI Pro MP165 E6, the 15.6-inch portable IPS monitor MSI lists for the US market. The product name used on this site adds “Ultra,” but MSI’s own product page, specification sheet and UK spec PDF all use “PRO MP165 E6” — “Ultra” has no official standing, and no evidence of a hardware difference was found. Best Buy’s listing title also claims adaptive sync, which MSI’s specification page does not list. The US Amazon listing is ASIN B0FV4S4YV9.
