Summary
A budget gel-infused memory foam topper that CNET picked as its value mattress topper, aimed at softening a too-firm bed. Before buying, know that the gel does not make it actively cool and there are no straps to hold it in place.
Strengths
- CNET picked it as its budget mattress topper and its editor used one for over four years without shape loss.
- Pressure relief for hips and shoulders suits a too-firm mattress.
- CertiPUR-US certified gel-infused foam.
- A 3-year limited warranty and a 30-night trial back it.
- The 3-inch profile gives a plush, conforming feel for heavier sleepers.
Weaknesses
- It sleeps warm despite the gel; CNET’s editor woke up sweating in summer.
- No corner straps, so it can shift on the mattress.
- Memory foam tends to develop body impressions over time, especially for sleepers over 200 lb.
- Cooling additives like gel may have limited measurable effect.
- Off-gassing odor is strongest after unboxing.
- A topper cannot fix a sagging mattress, and cutting it to size voids the warranty.

Full research notes and sources
Heat, cooling and the gel claim
The gel beads and the manufacturer’s “sleeps cooler than a normal memory foam topper” line are relative, not active cooling. CNET’s sleep editor reports the topper sleeps warm, absorbs body heat and caused summer night sweats. Wirecutter adds that cooling additives such as gel, graphite and phase-change materials may have limited effect, citing a small 2017 study in which participants did not notice a skin-temperature difference.
Sizes, care and durability
The Queen measures 59" x 79" x 3" and the line comes in nine sizes from Small Single to California King. There is no cover and no straps. Clean it by spot cleaning or dry cleaning only; memory foam should never go in a washing machine. CNET’s editor reports four-plus years with no shape loss, but Wirecutter notes memory foam can take body impressions over time, especially for sleepers over 200 lb, and Tuck says lower-density foam tends to do the same. Wirecutter also eliminated toppers that kept a strong chemical smell past 72 hours, and off-gassing is strongest right after unboxing.
Is it worth it?
The manufacturer’s archived page listed the 3-inch topper starting at $59.99, and CNET reported the 2-inch Queen at $60 (CNET, June 2025). That puts it at the bottom of the market; Tuck lists the average memory foam topper at $100–$250, and Wirecutter’s own memory-foam pick, the ViscoSoft 3-inch, is $180 for a queen. For a guest bed, a dorm or a too-firm mattress on a budget, it is hard to beat. Hot sleepers and anyone who needs a topper to stay put should look elsewhere.
Which model this is
This page covers the Linenspa 3 Inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper in Queen size, ASIN B07MY34QH7. Don’t confuse it with the 2-inch version (for example ASIN B01MYN9K5B), the gel-swirl or convoluted Linenspa toppers, or the Linenspa Hybrid mattress, which is a different product.
