Summary

A compact 24 W ultrasonic cool-mist humidifier with a 3 L top-fill tank, a built-in humidistat, VeSync app and voice control, and a 2-in-1 essential-oil diffuser. It is quiet enough for a bedroom, but it is cool-mist only and there is no long-term reliability record to lean on.

Strengths

  • Top-fill lid means you refill without flipping the tank over a sink.
  • Consumer Reports rated it excellent in overall performance for small rooms.
  • Popular Mechanics named it its best value humidifier after 10 months of testing.
  • Auto Mode holds a 40–50% target and adjusts mist levels on its own.
  • It runs at ≤28 dB and suits a bedroom or small office.
  • The 2-in-1 diffuser takes essential oil dropped into the base chamber, so you skip a separate diffuser.

Weaknesses

  • Cool mist only; there is no warm-mist option.
  • The display is very bright and can only be turned off through the app, not on the unit.
  • Removing the tank from the base can spill water.
  • The cleaning reminder is timer-based and does not track actual use.
  • Some buyers reported the unit did not last long, though ZDNET’s own unit ran six months without trouble.
  • It is not the right pick for a large room, and there is little long-term reliability evidence.

Humidistat and smart controls

The core draw is the built-in humidistat: set a target and Auto Mode holds 40–50% relative humidity, raising or lowering output to stay there. Popular Mechanics found it maintained its target well over a 10-month test, and the same reviewer called the easy top-fill refill and removable parts the best parts of the design. The VeSync app adds scheduling, remote control and a humidity readout, and Alexa and Google Assistant can control it by voice. There is no ECO mode despite some seller listings using the term; the actual feature is Auto Mode.

Noise and nighttime use

Levoit rates the unit at ≤28 dB, and reviewers including ZDNET and The Independent put it among the quieter small humidifiers. Levoit calls the fan a hydraulic muffler, and users commonly run it in bedrooms. The catch at night is the screen: it is bright, and the only way to kill it is the app. Some listings describe an optional 7-color night light and others say the display backlight doubles as one; Consumer Reports lists no nightlight, so treat the night-light claim as a listing variant, not a measured feature.

Cleaning and maintenance

Clean the tank and base chamber often; Popular Mechanics cites the EPA recommendation of every three days or less, and the manual calls for weekly cleaning. The only user-replaceable consumable is the water filter sponge, which Levoit includes two of. Use purified or distilled water to avoid white dust and mineral buildup, and never add supplemental water-treatment liquids, which the manual says will damage the unit and cause leaks. The manual also warns against opening the base or removing the water level sensor for self-servicing, and bottom leaks are a known troubleshooting item tied to the silicone sealing ring. An E1 error means the unit needs support.

Running costs and warranty

Levoit and the VeSync Store both list it at $54.99, Target shows the same, MedGrade listed $49.99, and Best Buy has listed it at $59.99, on sale from a $69.99 comparison value. A third-party clearance listing showed $19.25 (levoitclean.shop), which is not a normal new-unit anchor. It launched in September 2021 at $54.99. There is no filter lock-in: the washable sponge is the only consumable, essential oils are sold separately and are not included, and Consumer Reports puts overnight electricity at about $0.9 a month. The 2-year warranty covers the original purchaser but not units bought from unauthorized sellers.

Is it worth it?

At $55 or less this is a strong value: smart app and voice control, a real humidistat, top-fill refill, a 3 L tank and a diffuser in one small footprint. From $56 to $70 it is still fair if you specifically want a compact smart humidifier with a humidistat; compare the larger 6 L Classic 300S if the room is bigger. Above $70 the compact size and smart features stop distinguishing it from larger or warm-mist options with stronger test histories. Skip it if you need warm mist or a multi-year track record.

Which model this is

This is the Levoit Dual 200S Smart Top-Fill Ultrasonic Humidifier, model LUH-D301S-WEU, the white US variant. The Amazon listing for it is ASIN B0B8XLKWZB. Do not confuse it with the pear-shaped non-top-fill Classic 200S, the smaller Dual 150, or the larger Classic 300S and LV600S.
