Summary
A 45mm Android smartwatch with a domed AMOLED display, two-day battery life and a user-replaceable battery and screen. Check the Fitbit Premium paywall before you buy: advanced health features require a subscription.
Strengths
- Battery life reaches 36–56 hours in testing, a clear jump from the Pixel Watch 3’s 24–46 hours.
- The domed Actua 360 display is bright at 3000 nits and readable in direct sunlight.
- Battery and display are user-replaceable — a first for the Pixel Watch line.
- Fast charging gets you to 50% in about 15 minutes.
- Health and fitness tracking is competitive with the Apple Watch Ultra 3.
- The Quick Charge Dock doubles as a bedside display with time, charge level and alarms.
Weaknesses
- Daily run recommendations and AI health coach require a Fitbit Premium subscription at $9.99 a month.
- Gemini voice triggers are inconsistent: raise-to-talk can fire accidentally and multi-step queries lag.
- The Quick Charge Dock is the third proprietary charger design in four years; older chargers do not work.
- The domed Gorilla Glass 5 scratched within one month in CNET’s testing.
- Satellite SOS is available on LTE models only; the Wi-Fi variant does not get it.
- Software support is 3 years, fewer than Samsung’s 4 years and Google’s 7 years on Pixel phones.

Battery life and daily use
Google rates the 45mm at 40 hours with always-on display and 72 hours in Battery Saver mode. PCMag tested 56 hours with AOD on; The Verge saw 36–42 hours in regular use. Owners in r/PixelWatch report 36–56 hours on the 45mm, a real improvement over the Pixel Watch 2 and 3. Charging from 5% to 100% took 43 minutes in PCMag’s test, and The Verge went from 14% to 97% in 34 minutes.
A February 2026 long-term review at 9to5Google found the watch still running two days of 12+ hour wear after months of daily use, and the device felt “largely the same as the day I unboxed it.”
Display, health and fitness tracking
The 1.46-inch domed Actua 360 panel is the watch’s most distinctive feature — bright, curved and easy to read outdoors. CNET’s one-month-later follow-up reported visible scratches on the Gorilla Glass 5, so consider a case if that bothers you.
Heart rate accuracy landed within 1–5 bpm of an Apple Watch Ultra 3 during runs and CrossFit in PCMag’s testing, and sleep tracking closely matched Apple’s. Android Central ran the watch against a Garmin Forerunner 970 over a half-marathon (5.00 vs 5.01 miles) and a 19-mile run: GPS stayed within 16 meters, elevation within 0.8 ft. One Reddit owner reported GPS inaccuracies on runs compared to a Coros Pace 3, noting the watch leans on its pedometer and accelerometer — that discrepancy is unresolved.
Repairs, parts and running costs
The Pixel Watch 4 is the first Pixel Watch with a replaceable battery and display. iFixit gave it 9/10 repairability — the highest score ever for a smartwatch — with screw-based construction, O-ring seals instead of adhesive, and Google’s release of full service manuals for both sizes. Tom’s Guide called it the easiest smartwatch to repair. iFixit warns that display replacement can cost nearly a third of a new device and requires an uncommon 1IP Torx Plus driver. Google also offers an optional PixelCare extended warranty.
The recurring ownership cost is Fitbit Premium at $9.99 a month after a 6-month trial. It unlocks daily run recommendations, AI health coach and advanced workout plans. Basic tracking and the included features work without it.
Is it worth it?
Google Store lists the 45mm Wi-Fi model at $399.99 (October 2025). At that price it competes with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 at $379.99 and the Apple Watch Series 11 from $399. You get better battery life and a more repairable design than both, but fewer health sensors than Samsung (no body composition, antioxidant or vascular load) and a paywall Samsung does not have. If you own a Pixel phone, camera controls and call screening tip it further in Google’s favor. At $350–$375 on sale it is a strong buy for Android users.
