COMFEE' Stainless Steel 1.7L (CEKS001): problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-05
Summary
The most consistent complaint is the hot single-wall stainless body, which is a design characteristic rather than a fault. Durability feedback is mixed: interior rust-like marks, leaking from the bottom and lid stiffness appear in owner reports alongside units that keep working for years, and no failure rate is published. Running cost is electricity only, around 0.153 kWh per full boil, and the kettle is a good buy at $27 or less.
Common problems and fixes
- Hot exterior — the single-wall 304 stainless body runs hot during a boil and owners report it repeatedly; the handle is the intended touch surface, so set the base away from counter edges and reach. It is not a defect, so the 365-day warranty does not apply. [1] [3]
- Rust-like marks and limescale inside the pot — owner reports include interior rust or rust-like spots, but hard-water deposits look identical; run a household descaling routine and rinse well before calling a stain corrosion. Genuine defects found inside the warranty year are a warranty case. [2] [4]
- Leaking from the bottom and early failure — a smaller set of reports describe base leaks and short service life; COMFEE publishes no replacement heater, thermostat or base, so an electrical failure inside the first year goes through warranty support and later means replacement on a low-cost appliance. [2] [4]
- Stiff lid and hinge — reviews describe a lid that resists opening and closing; work around it by easing the hinge open slowly and never forcing it with the kettle full. The lid is not sold as a service part, and the 365-day warranty covers a faulty lid. [2] [4]
- Spout filter dislodging — the removable nylon filter sometimes drops out of the spout while pouring, which an independent boil test also saw; press it back into its seat and rinse it under the tap after each boil. Not a warranty item. [3] [4]
- Cord and base seating — review summaries include complaints about how the kettle sits on its base; align it on the 360-degree swivel base before lifting to avoid tipping and cord strain. [1] [4]
Parts and consumables
- No replaceable parts or consumables reported. There is no filter, pod or cartridge to buy, and no replacement-parts catalog exists for the heater, thermostat, base or lid, so those are not available individually. The removable nylon spout filter is the only removable piece and owners clean it rather than replace it. [1] [2] [4]
Yearly running cost
Electricity is the only running cost. One hands-on boil test measured 0.153 kWh for a full 1.7 L fill, so boiling a full pot once a day works out at about 55.8 kWh a year. The bill depends on the local electricity rate and on how full you fill the kettle, since a part-fill boil uses proportionally less energy. No filters, descaling products or subscriptions are needed. [3]
When it is a good buy
Value bands from observed pricing: $22 or less is excellent, $23 to $27 is good, $28 to $30 is acceptable, $31 to $35 is weak, and above $35 it is poor value. The manufacturer’s own store listed the CEKS001 at $24.99 in September 2026, inside the good band. [1]
- COMFEE CEKS002, $22.99 at the manufacturer’s store in September 2026 — the cheaper pick when you only want hot water and the lowest outlay. [1]
- COMFEE CKE17LM2APK double-wall 1.7L, $29.99 at the manufacturer’s store in September 2026 — the better choice when the hot single-wall body bothers you, since the double wall keeps the outside cooler. [1] [5]
- A temperature-control gooseneck kettle — the right tool for pour-over or tea that must be held at a set temperature, which this single-temperature model cannot do. [6]
- Established brands such as Hamilton Beach or Chefman — worth comparing once you are paying materially above $30, rather than buying a premium for a basic single-temperature design. [2]
