Summary
A 16-inch aluminum thin-and-light built around AMD’s 10-core Ryzen AI 9 465, with 32GB of soldered memory, a 1TB SSD and a 120Hz IPS touchscreen. Check which processor a listing actually uses before buying: most reviews covered the cheaper Ryzen AI 7 445, not this 465 configuration.
Strengths
- The 10-core Ryzen AI 9 465 and Radeon 880M handle web, office and light creative work.
- A 50 TOPS NPU brings Copilot+ features to a mainstream price.
- The 120Hz IPS touchscreen beats the 60Hz panels common in this class.
- 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD leave little to add later.
- USB4, HDMI 2.1 and microSD cover most desk and travel setups.
- Consumer Reports rated this exact configuration “very good” for performance.
Weaknesses
- The display is IPS, not OLED, and OLED rivals have been seen at similar prices.
- Memory is soldered, so there is no upgrade path.
- Acer utilities plus third-party promotions ship pre-installed.
- The lid collects smudges that resist wiping.
- The lid-open sensor reacts to magnetic watch bands, dimming and locking the screen.
- Most test data covers the cheaper Ryzen AI 7 445, not this 465 build.

Performance and the two versions
The chip in the model name is AMD’s “Gorgon Point” Ryzen AI 9 465, a 10-core part with Radeon 880M graphics and a 50 TOPS NPU. It is the fastest AMD setup in the Swift Go 16 AI family, but most professional reviews covered the cheaper Ryzen AI 7 445 — 6 cores, sometimes 16GB — and those results do not transfer directly. Consumer Reports is the outlier that tested the exact SFG16-A71T-R87F with the 465 and 32GB, rating performance “very good” for web browsing, video calls, documents, spreadsheets, image work and video conversion.
Reviews of the 445 still describe the chassis. Tom’s Hardware called the 445 solid value at its sale price but hard to justify at its list price, and PCWorld found the platform “good enough, but not at this price”. IT Pro and Notebookcheck saw the same shape across the family: dependable everyday machines with faults rather than standouts.
Display, chassis and carrying
The 16-inch panel is 1920x1200 IPS at 120Hz with touch, a step above the slow panels many competitors use but short of OLED contrast. IT Pro measured the OLED version of this laptop at 100% sRGB and 304 cd/m2, bright enough indoors but not outdoors; this configuration’s IPS panel is a different display.
The body is aluminum with a laser-etched cover and a hinge that lies flat at 180°. It weighs 3.53 lbs (1.6 kg). Tom’s Hardware measured the 445 test unit at 14 × 9.89 × 0.63 in, while Consumer Reports lists the 465 unit at 14 × 9.9 × 0.9 in, so thickness depends on where it is measured. A carrying sleeve ships in the box. Ports are generous: two USB4 Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, HDMI 2.1, microSD and a headset jack. Acer puts the charging indicator on the right while the USB-C charging ports sit on the left.
Battery, thermals and upkeep
Treat battery figures with care. Consumer Reports measured 11 hours of web browsing and 10 hours of 4K video playback on this exact configuration, and lists a 12-month warranty with 12 months of free telephone tech support. Tom’s Hardware records a 65 Wh battery and a 100W USB-C adapter. IT Pro ran an 18h 21m HD video rundown, but on its OLED unit with a different chip and panel, so that number is not a like-for-like result.
Upkeep is small. Wipe the lid, watch the lid sensor, and keep magnetic bands away from it. Memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded, and Acer sells extended Acer Care coverage separately for the standard limited warranty.
Which model this is
SFG16-A71T-R87F is the Best Buy SKU 6671804, sold in Obsidian Black. Acer lists the family as SFG16-A71 with the Ryzen AI 9 465 as the top AMD build. Do not confuse it with the Intel Swift Go 16 AI (SFG16-I71T), the smaller Swift Go 14 AI, or the Swift 16 AI. The AMD “Gorgon Point” platform is a different board from the Intel “Panther Lake” version in the same family.
Is it worth it?
Deal threads put the 10-core 465 with 32GB and 1TB at $999.99, and The Verge reported a $900 deal in June 2026 — both strong value for the hardware. Best Buy and Newegg list the same configuration at $1,229. Above that, the IPS screen, soldered memory and bundled promotions are harder to justify when OLED-equipped laptops sell nearby. The cheaper Ryzen AI 7 445 version has sold for $799 (Best Buy) against a $1,149 list. If your work needs cores, the 465 is the one; if it is web and office only, the 445 is the same chassis for less.
